Since the new school year is coming up soon, many people are moving to new countries and to new schools. Being the extra person I am, I wrote a cheesy poem instead of an article. So if you’re worried about moving schools, or you just want to laugh at my sad rhyming skills, read on :)
While being an alien in a foreign space
Can be intimidating, nerve-wracking and hard to brace,
New friends will come
And so will the fun.
So I promise you, my dear,
There’s nothing to fear.
But if you’d like some advice from an alien-pro,
Keep reading on and learn as you go.
Step one, my dear friend,
Is to talk to them.
Your classmates, the cleaners,
And even your teachers,
Just say a small ‘Hello’,
Or ‘How’d your summer go?’
They’ll probably reply with a friendly smile,
And from there, who knows, maybe you’ll chat for a while.
But if talking to everyone is terrifying beyond belief,
Just observing the goings could be more part of your brief.
Look around, take in, absorb,
Be pleasant and smile, with an occasional nod.
Apart from that, my advice would be:
Be optimistic- ‘coz it really is key.
Chances are, you’ll think of how horribly the day will go,
But it’ll turn out to be better than you made it out for.
So just be confident and have a lil’ faith, but if the first day doesn’t go so well,
Don’t worry, it was only day one- I’m sure the next will go swell.
So that was my little poem. If you’re still worried about moving schools, have hope in knowing that even an idiot like me managed to survive.
Oh, and if you’re coming to Tenby, my name’s Xing Ann and I’ll be in 11Y next year (2017/2018)! Feel free to come up to me- I’ll be more than happy to be your first friend :D
